Frequently Asked Questions

Who can be treated?

Anybody above the age of 4-5 years old can be seen. Children need to be able to replicate movements of the face and mouth. Motivation is important in clients, you have to see value in myofunctional therapy and be dedicated to doing your exercises daily. In short, children, teens, and adults can all benefit from myo. It’s never too late to invest in a healthier you.

Is this covered by insurance?

No, myofunctional therapy is a relatively new service and is not recognized by insurance. Sadly, there are no myofunctional therapy insurance codes to bill to insurance companies at this time.

How will this help me or my child?

Achieving the 5 myo core goals (as outlined in the About page) helps with a lot of other issues. Myo can help children achieve proper dental, facial, and airway development. It can prevent orthodontic relapse in teens and adults. It can help with sleep-disordered breathing and sleep apnea. It can help with TMJ issues. Mouth breathing activates our nervous system and stress response by putting our bodies in “fight or flight” mode, chronically being in this mode has a cascade of negative effects. The bottom line is reaching the myo therapy goals helps in profound ways.

Why is airway health important?

Nasal breathing slows, warms, humidifies, and filters air. It also supports better sleep, maintains saliva, guides optimal facial and dental growth and development, and produces nitric oxide (which is essential to healthy blood flow). Suboptimal airway health can lead to anxiety, ADHD-like symptoms, poor sleep, and much more.
